Compact Flash Card Extender CF2PCE
The Compact Flash (CF) interface (50-way connector) is a cut-down version of
the 16-bit PCMCIA Card interface (68-way connector). So, although it is intended
as an engineering and debugging tool, Elan's CF2PCE CF Card Extender can be used
to convert a standard 16-bit PCMCIA card for use in a CF socket on PDA's etc.
However, it must be noted that some important signal lines are not present on
the CF interface, so some PCMCIA cards may not work.
| 16-bit PCMCIA Signal Name | Description |
|---|---|
| A[25::11] | Address BUS lines 11 to 25 |
| VPP[2::1] | Program and Peripheral Voltages (usually used for programming linear FLASH memory cards) |
It is also unlikely that the PDA's host controller supports DMA operations.
Many PCMCIA cards don't use these missing signals, so many people are successfully using the CF2PCE adapter with their PCMCIA cards. Elan cannot take any responsibility for non-operation of PCMCIA cards when used with the CF2PCE Card Extender, so before you purchase, you should check with your PDA and PCMCIA card manufacturer that these signals are not going to effect the operation of your card.
