Multifunction PC-Cards Fail to Communicate in Windows XP+SP1
This FAQ only applies to the Windows XP operating system with service pack 1 (SP1) installed
There is a bug in Windows XP + SP1 that causes cards conforming to the Multifunction PC-Card Specification to fail to communicate. This bug effects all our multifunction PCMCIA cards like the SP230, SL332 and SL385 cards.
More Information
When Windows XP + SP1 is installed, the multifunction PCMCIA card's PWRDWN bit is set in the function configuration registers. If the hardware supports this register bit, then the device is placed in a low power state (as defined in the PC-Card Specification for multifunction PC-Cards). Windows XP sets the PWRDWN bit on device insertion and power up. When a program attempts to use the device, Windows never clears this bit, so the device fails to operate correctly. There is no indication in the Device Manager of any problem.
The Microsoft Web Site has more information in their knowledge base article.
Get Around
Microsoft have made a hotfix for XP+SP1 available. You can download the English language version from our website but will need to contact Microsoft product support for other language versions.
