The Problem

Controller Chip:  Your adapter will have a chip near the middle which is by far the largest chip on the board.  Etched onto the chip is the make and model number.  The manufacturer may be ENE, Texas Instruments (TI), Cirrus Logic (may be labelled "Basis") or Ricoh. You can also get this information from the Windows Device Manager.
