Windows 98 fails after insertion of 16bit card after a CardBus card
After you boot your computer with a CardBus card inserted in the CardBus adapter's slot and you then remove the CardBus card, and replace it with a 16-bit PCMCIA card that requires an IRQ, the computer may hang, or the 16-bit card may fail with an error code indicating the required resources are not available.
This is a known issue with the Windows 98 & 98SE operating systems. There is no fix for the problem, you can only avoid operations that follow the procedure outlined above to prevent crashing.
The alternatively is to upgrade to a newer version of Windows which does not have this problem.
