Installation of U111-530/630 Adapter Hangs
Description of Problem
A small number of customers have reported problems during the installation of the U111-530/630 reader.
The installation process is reported to hang completely; At the stage below the finish button remains greyed out and the install wizard just stops.
Forcing the install process to stop in Task Manager (or by rebooting) is the only way to stop the Wizard. After this, the USB reader is shown in Device Manager but is marked with a yellow exclaimation mark. Deleting the U111 from Device Manager is not possible.
Attempting to restart the installation or update the driver from Device Manager causes the same problem to reccur.
Fix
Elan has confirmed that the problem is with the elupcr.sys fil in driver versions 20050906 and earlier. Updaging this driver file corrects this problem. Follow these instructions to implement the update on your machine. These assume that you have already attempted to install the U111-530/630 drivers supplied on the CD that comes with your adapter.
- Go to the windows sys 32 drivers folder and delete the file elupcr.sys

- Reboot the PC

- Plug in the U111and check in device manager this should now have a yellow exclaimation mark

- Delete the U111 from device manager

- If you have tried to setup a network connection via the U111, delete this too
If your installation crashed early in the process, you may need to insert the CD-ROM that came with the U111 adapter after you re-insert the U111, or when you insert the Merlin card.
If you continue to have difficulties installing the U111, remove it from your PC, remove any of the devices that have appeared in Device Manager, download the latest driver software and begin a fresh installation using the new driver.
