Problems with Option Cards in the U142
The U142 supports a number of 32-bit cards made by Option which are very popular and sold by operators around the world. (See our supported card list for more information.) Some customers have encountered problems when first installing these cards for use in a U142.
Description of the Problem
The U142 installs correctly (2 devices show in Device Manager). When the card is plugged into the U142, Windows detects it but cannot find a driver for it. Multiple devices appear in Device Manager for the Option card, but none of them is recognised and they all have a yellow exclaimation mark next to them. If you ask Windows to 'Update Driver' and 'Search Automatically' it will return an error 'Unable to find a driver for this device'. This occurs even when the drivers for the card have been installed as part of the Operator's software.
Explaination of the Problem
Option produce drivers for their cards that support the card when used via a U142 adapter. However these drivers are not the same driver that is required when it is used directly in a PC card slot. Not all operators supply the USB-mode drivers as part of their driver installation package for their card. If your operator has not, your card will not be recognised in the U142.
Solution
The required drivers can be downloaded from our web site. Windows will then use these drivers to install the Option card.
Instructions
- Download the zipped drivers
- Unzip the drivers to a temporary folder on your PC (Unzip utiliy such as Winzip required)
- Go to Device Manager
- Right click on one of the problem devices
- Click 'Update Driver'
- Chose 'Search Automatically'
- Wait while Windows finds the new driver
- Repeat for all of the devices
