More Information About ZigBee or 802.15.4
ZigBee is the only technology that is designed for low cost remote monitoring and control. The ZigBee Alliance - an association whose members include Philips, Honeywell, Motorola and Mitsubishi - is working together to develop products using the standard which was defined by the IEEE.
The initial applications for the ZigBee Alliance include:
- Integrate and centralize the operation of lighting, heating, cooling and security in the home or the workplace
- Reduce energy expenses through optimized management
- Allocate utility costs equitably based on actual consumption
- Reconfigure lighting systems quickly to create adaptable workspaces
- Extend and upgrade building infrastructure with minimal effort
- Network and integrate data from multiple access control points
- Deploy wireless monitoring networks to enhance perimeter protection
- Extend existing manufacturing and process control systems reliably
- Improve asset management by continuously monitoring critical equipment
- Reduce energy costs through optimized manufacturing processes
- Identify inefficient operation or poorly performing equipment Efficiency
- Automate data acquisition from remote sensors to reduce user intervention
- Streamline data collection for improved compliance reporting
Up to 255 devices can be connected to a Zigbee network and the structure is flexible (Star, Cluster Tree or Mesh configuration).
